Theme 1 Vulnerability and coastal risks

Main objective

This theme aims to improve the management of coastal erosion and marine submersion risks through a systemic approach to the vulnerability of territories to natural hazards.

By going beyond the simple framework of territorial vulnerability diagnosis, this theme looks at the way in which each component (natural or human) of vulnerability contributes to reinforcing or mitigating coastal risks. These different components are monitored over time and make it possible to trace the vulnerability trajectories of coastal territories.

Description

This theme traces the four components of the vulnerability of coastal territories to erosion and flooding risks: (i) the hazards(ii) the issues(iii) the management methods and (iv) the social representations des risques. La co-construction d’indicateurs entre les gestionnaires et les scientifiques permet de determine and monitor the vulnerability of coastal areas over time. A web-based mapping tool called OSI is being developed to make these indicators operational. This tool is fed by data produced within the framework of the Integrated Coastal Risk Observatory OSIRISC.

In the ZABrI territory, monitoring is carried out in conjunction with the EPCIs, the municipalities and the managers of the regional nature reserve of the Crozon peninsula. The workshop sites of Telgruc-sur-Mer (soft cliff of Caon and Trez-Bellec beach), Camaret-sur-Mer (cliff of Trez-Rouz and Veryac'h, Plouzané (cliff of Dellec), the island of Sein (loose cliffs and pebbled strips) as well as the littoral accumulations of the islets of the Molène archipelago are privileged for these monitoring of hazards and issues, and of erosion and submersion risks. The coastal area of the ZABrI as a whole is included in the overall vulnerability monitoring process.
